The Farm That Grows With Nature

Aboli Farm is a 5-acre farm in the beautiful Konkan region of Maharashtra, surrounded by the natural richness of Sawantwadi. With coconut, areca nut, mango and banana trees, a river along one boundary and a natural well, the land already has the elements of a thriving ecosystem.

Our vision is to gradually transform this land into a diverse food forest, a place where food, trees, people and wildlife can coexist naturally.

We are inspired by the principles of permaculture, natural farming and sustainable living. Instead of looking at the farm simply as a place to grow crops, we see it as a living system where healthy soil supports healthy plants, plants support biodiversity, and biodiversity helps the entire ecosystem become stronger.

Our aim is simple: to grow good food, restore the land, create meaningful livelihoods and leave the farm healthier for the generations that come after us.

Sustainable Farming

Farming in harmony with nature
We believe farming should work with nature rather than constantly trying to control it. At Aboli, we focus on building healthy soil, conserving water, reducing waste and using natural processes. We want the farm to become more self-sustaining over time, with different elements working together instead of depending heavily on external inputs.

Our approach includes natural soil enrichment, composting, mulching, water conservation, mixed cropping and encouraging beneficial insects and pollinators.
We don't measure success only by how much we can produce. We also look at how healthy the land becomes while producing it.

Biodiversity & Conservation

A farm is also a home!
A healthy farm is not just about crops. It is also home to birds, butterflies, bees, insects, frogs, micro-organisms and countless other forms of life.

By growing a variety of trees and plants and creating different habitats, we want to encourage and maintain the biodiversity across the farm. Native plants, flowering species, fruit trees and ground cover all have a role to play.

Biodiversity creates a natural balance. Our goal is to create a farm where nature is not a visitor. It is part of the farm.

Pure & Farm Fresh Produce

From our land to your home.
We want you to know where your food comes from. Aboli grows a range of fruits, coconuts, spices, seasonal crops and other farm produce. We follow natural farming practices and avoid synthetic chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides in our cultivation. Our multi-cropping approach allows different plants and trees to grow together, creating a more diverse and resilient farming environment.

Through Aboli Fresh, we are taking this idea a step further and bringing products from our farm to your home with as little unnecessary processing as possible. Every harvest has its own season, flavour and story. We want to celebrate that rather than force nature to produce everything, all year round.

Farm fresh. Naturally grown. Thoughtfully made.

Learning & Awareness

Growing knowledge along with food.
We believe one of the most important things a farm can grow is awareness. Many of us have become disconnected from where our food comes from, and we want Aboli to help rebuild that connection.

Through farm visits, workshops and hands-on experiences, we hope to introduce people to natural farming, soil health, biodiversity, food forests and sustainable living.

We also want to show that, with the right knowledge, planning and value addition, farming can be a viable and rewarding livelihood. Our hope is to inspire especially younger generations to see agriculture as an important part of our future.

Community & Connection

Growing opportunities, not just crops.
Aboli is also about people and about creating opportunities for the local community. Rural communities have rich knowledge and skills, yet many people leave their villages in search of work in cities. We hope to create meaningful local employment across farming, harvesting, processing, hospitality and other farm activities.

We also want to share knowledge about natural farming and explore ways to make farming a sustainable and dignified livelihood through better practices, value-added products and responsible farm experiences.

Our vision is simple: To grow Aboli alongside the local community, while bringing people closer to farming and the land.

A Legacy for Tomorrow

Leaving the land better than we found it.
Aboli is being built with a long-term view. We don't want to invest in the land to improve the soil, protect water, increase biodiversity and create an ecosystem that becomes stronger with time. Trees planted today may take years to mature. Soil may take years to regenerate. A food forest may take decades to reach its full potential.

That is okay. We are thinking beyond the next harvest and looking towards the next generation. Our measure of success will not only be what the farm produces for us, but what it continues to give to the people, wildlife and future generations who come after us.

Aboli - A Food Forest

More Than a Farm. A Living Ecosystem.

At the heart of our vision for Aboli is the food forest. A food forest takes inspiration from the way a natural forest works. Instead of growing one crop in isolation, different plants occupy different layers and spaces, just as they do in nature. At Aboli, we are gradually creating a diverse landscape of coconut, mango, areca nut, banana, fruit trees, spices, herbs, vegetables, flowers and native plants.

The idea is to create relationships between them. Tall trees provide shade and shelter. Smaller trees and plants use the spaces beneath them. Ground covers protect the soil. Flowers attract pollinators. Organic matter returns to the earth. Roots help build soil structure. Birds and insects become part of the ecosystem. Instead of seeing each plant as a separate crop, we look at the farm as a connected system.

Why a Food Forest?

A diverse farm can be more resilient than a monoculture. Different plants have different needs, growth cycles and roles, allowing the land to produce across different seasons while supporting a wider range of life. It also encourages us to think differently about productivity. A coconut tree gives us coconuts. A mango tree gives us fruit. But they can also provide shade, habitat, organic matter and support for other plants growing around them.

One tree can have many yields. One farm can have many layers of abundance.

Our food forest is still evolving. Some trees are young, some are established, and many ideas are still being tested. We see this as a journey of observation, learning and continuous improvement.

Our Approach

We imagine Aboli Farm as a place where food, nature, people and learning come together. A thriving food forest. A source of clean, farm-fresh produce. A place where local people can find meaningful work. A space where children can discover where their food comes from. A place where farmers can learn, experiment and share. A destination where visitors can slow down and reconnect with nature.

And, most importantly, a piece of land that becomes healthier, richer and more alive with every passing year.

We are not just growing a farm. We are growing a way of life.

Our Vision

Observe. Learn. Grow. Repeat.
We don't believe there is a single formula for sustainable farming. The land teaches us what works. We observe the seasons, rainfall, soil, water, plants, insects and wildlife. We experiment, learn from what succeeds and what doesn't, and adapt our approach accordingly. The heavy monsoon, the tropical climate, the river, the existing trees and the wildlife around us all influence the way we farm.

Aboli is therefore not a finished project. It is a farm in progress. And that's what makes the journey exciting.
